Rwanda Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy Review Workshop

Kigali, December 1st – 2nd, 2016

The Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy Review Workshop is organized under the facilitation of a team of experts from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in collaboration with the Rwanda’s National Commission of Science and Technology (NCST), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and East African Community Affairs (MINEACOM) and the National Industrial and Development Agency (NIRDA).

In April 2016, a team of experts from UNCTAD conducted a policy review mission to Rwanda with an objective to assess STI policies and their contribution to the country’s economic development and competitiveness. This two day workshop is an opportunity for stakeholders from Government, academia and private sector who play a role in Rwanda’s STI arena to learn about and discuss the experts’ findings. In addition, the workshop will cover other strategic issues pertaining to Rwanda’s science and technology landscape including research and innovation financing.

The present review is a qualitative assessment of Rwanda’s innovation system based on field observations and consultations with stakeholders complemented with other published works.
