Our core mission is to provide strategic advices and recommendations to the Government on all matters relating to policies, legislation and regulation in the fields of science, technology, research and innovation and monitor the implementation of such policies and legislation.We also serve as science and technology think-tank for the Government in the setting of priorities for national science and technology innovation, research and development agenda.

The Council

The law n° 40/2017 of 21/08/2017 establishing the National Council of Science and Technology (NCST) and determining its mission, organization and functioning state that NCST is composed of the following management organs: 

  1. the Council; 
  2. the Executive Secretariat;

The Council has the following responsibilties:

  1. to establish the guidelines of NCST;
  2. to provide advice that enables NCST to fulfil its mission;
  3. to determine the categories of activities to be given priority in the use of science and technology;

Special and Urgent Collaborative Research Grants to Address COVID-19 Pandemic

Funding Opportunity Announcements: Deadline 15th July 2020

The NCST is soliciting research proposals from investigators from public and private research institutions in Rwanda in collaboration with international renown experts in specific areas to address COVID-19 infection in Rwanda.

The research priority themes include:

  • Diagnostics and real-Time testing for COVID-19;

  • Society Resilience to Mitigate the Impact of COVID-19;

  • Protective Equipment for Prevention and Management of COVID-19; and
  • Predicting and Monitoring the Impact COVID-19.

Call for Research on Sustainable Energy and Modern Agriculture

The NCST has received a research Grant from the International Development Research Center in Canada (IDRC).

The objectives of this research call are: a) to support advanced sustainable energy studies to diversify Rwanda’s energy sources and provide cleaner energy solutions; and b) to support research on nutrition, irrigation, crop varieties, farm productivity, biosciences, and post-harvest technologies.

 

Eligible applicants are requested to submit their research proposals to NCST from 1st May to 30th June 2020 by 17:00 hours via http://grants.ncst.gov.rw/srfapplication

Academia-Industry Collaboration Research Grant

The NCST announces research proposals under the “Academia-Industry Collaboration Research Grant” for Research Categories 1-3 schemes under these major areas: ICT, Agriculture, Health, Energy, Mining and Natural resources, Manufacturing and Climate change.

The goal of this call is to promote research collaboration between academia and industry/private sector to address specific community needs that promote the well-being of Rwandan population.

The Deadline for this Call has been extended to 15th June 2020.

COVID-19 AFRICA RAPID GRANT FUND

Call for Applicants - Researchers; Science and Health Journalists and Communicators; and Science Advisers

The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa requires coordinated, responsive research as well as effective, evidence-based communication and science engagement.

The approximately USD4.75million COVID-19 Africa Rapid Grant Fund is a collaboration that aims to address research questions and support communities of science journalists and communicators on the African continent, in efforts to produce and disseminate coordinated science communication outputs that will allow readers access to factual information and analysis to inform their actions and challenge misinformation.
